What Florida Law Requires When You Buy a Ragdoll Kitten
This is where Florida differs from most states, and it is worth knowing before you send anyone a deposit.
Florida’s Pet Law, Section 828.29 of the Florida Statutes, requires that a dog or cat sold in Florida be accompanied by an Official Certificate of Veterinary Inspection. The OCVI documents that a licensed veterinarian examined the animal and found it free of signs of contagious disease, and it records the vaccination and deworming record. A Florida buyer is entitled to that document as part of the sale, not as an optional extra.
On top of that, a cat entering Florida from another state needs an OCVI issued within 30 days of entry, plus proof of current rabies vaccination once the cat is three months of age or older.
Two things follow from this. First, any Florida seller who cannot produce an OCVI is either not complying with state law or is not actually in Florida. Second, a kitten flying into Florida from an out-of-state breeder needs paperwork on both counts, which is why every kitten we place into Florida travels with a current OCVI already in hand. Verify current requirements with FDACS before travel, since rules are updated periodically.
Ragdoll Kitten Price in Florida
Ragdoll kittens on this page cost $1,050 to $1,300 before delivery. Florida’s wider market runs $800 to $2,500 for pet quality and $3,000 to $5,000 for show or breeding quality from championship lines.
What actually moves the number:
- Parent health testing. Annual HCM echocardiograms and DNA panels are the largest recurring cost a responsible Florida breeder carries.
- Pattern. Bicolor and high-white kittens typically price above standard colorpoint.
- Pedigree. Championship bloodlines carry a premium regardless of whether you show.
- Delivery. Pickup is free. Flight nanny or ground transport is quoted separately.
A kitten offered well under $800 in Florida deserves a hard question about the OCVI. At that price the parents have rarely been cardiac-screened, and the seller often cannot produce the certificate Florida requires.
How Delivery to Florida Works
- In-person pickup. Available when a Florida or Southeast breeder is holding your kitten.
- Flight nanny. Cabin travel with a courier, most often through MIA, MCO, TPA or JAX.
- Ground transport. Climate-controlled, used along the I-95 and I-75 corridors.
Plan around summer heat. Florida arrivals between roughly May and September run into airline heat embargoes, which restrict live-animal cargo when ramp temperatures exceed carrier limits. This is one of the main reasons the network uses cabin flight nannies rather than cargo. Cabin travel is not subject to the same temperature restrictions, and your kitten is with a person the entire way. Summer deliveries are still routine, they just need earlier scheduling.
How to Reserve Your Ragdoll Kitten in Florida
- Browse. Pick a kitten from the listings above.
- Reserve. A deposit holds your kitten until it is old enough to travel.
- Video call. Meet the kitten and the breeder and ask anything before committing.
- Pickup or delivery. Collect in person, or arrange a flight nanny into MIA, MCO, TPA or JAX.
- Paperwork and support. Your OCVI travels with the kitten, and your breeder stays reachable afterward.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How much is a Ragdoll kitten in Florida?
Ragdoll kittens in Florida cost $1,050 to $1,300 from this network. Across the state, pet-quality kittens sell for $800 to $2,500 and show or breeding quality reaches $3,000 to $5,000. Delivery is quoted separately.
What paperwork is required to buy a cat in Florida?
An Official Certificate of Veterinary Inspection. Florida’s Pet Law, Section 828.29 of the Florida Statutes, requires an OCVI to accompany any dog or cat sold in the state. A cat entering Florida from out of state needs an OCVI issued within 30 days plus proof of rabies vaccination if it is three months or older.
Are there Ragdoll breeders in Florida?
Yes. Registered Ragdoll catteries operate around the Tampa Bay, Orlando and South Florida metros. Where no Florida litter matches your color, the network arranges delivery from the closest breeder holding it.
Can Ragdoll kittens fly to Florida in summer?
Yes, in the cabin. Airline heat embargoes restrict live-animal cargo during Florida’s hot months, which is why the network uses cabin flight nannies instead. Summer deliveries need earlier scheduling but are routine.
Do you deliver to Naples, Sarasota or Fort Myers?
Yes. Southwest Florida is served by ground transport along I-75 and by flight nanny into RSW or TPA. Submit an inquiry with your city for a quote.
How old are kittens when they arrive in Florida?
Twelve to sixteen weeks. Kittens are not placed earlier, since the last weeks with the litter are what produce the settled temperament the breed is known for.
What is included with a Florida kitten?
Age-appropriate vaccinations, completed deworming, a veterinary health check, the Florida-required OCVI, a microchip registered in your name, and a written health guarantee.
